YOUR FOOT HAS A SIZE.
YOUR SHOE HAS A FIT.
They aren’t always the same thing.
It’s easy to click “Buy Again” or order the same shoe size you’ve worn for years.
But when was the last time you actually had your feet measured?
Your feet can change in both size and shape over time due to aging, pregnancy, activity level, weight changes, injuries and changes in the arches of your feet. And here’s another catch: the same size can fit differently from one shoe to another, based on materials and machines used in factories. One pair of shoes may be produced in multiple factories, possibly in different countries. Who knew!
Before buying your next pair of sneakers, consider going into a running or shoe store and:
Have BOTH feet measured — one foot can be slightly larger than the other.
Try several brands and styles — don’t assume the shoe that works for your friend or has great online reviews will work for you.
Walk around in them — comfort should be there from the start. You shouldn’t have to “break them in.”
Check the toe box — your toes need room to move and spread naturally. You should have about 1/2 inch of space between your longest toe and end of shoe.
Don’t get attached to the number — buy the shoe that fits your foot, even if it’s a half-size larger than what you’ve always worn. You may want to get a half size bigger in running shoes, as your feet can swell.
The right shoe isn’t necessarily the one with the best reviews. It’s the one that fits YOUR foot.
Invest in your feet. You use them every single day.
